Tesla is holding an invite-only guest event today, 3 September 2026, in downtown Austin, timed around 4:45 p.m. CT (5:45 p.m. ET). Production of the cars remains at Gigafactory Texas; the ride event is not at the factory. Downtown venue and start time are widely attributed to Cybercab engineer Eric Earley on X — the original tweet may not be findable, so we do not overclaim a permalink. Some earlier recaps (including TechTimes) placed the gathering at the factory; that was wrong for tonight’s guest rides. On the ground, Cybercabs have been seen on Congress Avenue downtown, and a downtown display has been documented.

This site is independent. We are not Tesla, and tonight is not a public open house. Reporting describes guests drawn from a Robotaxi-rider sweepstakes and from “exclusive access” emails. Attendees have been described as 21 or older, with ID checks at the venue. Many people expect a public stream, but as of early evening no official livestream URL has been posted by @Tesla or @elonmusk. We will not invent one. @Tesla did post a gold Cybercab video, “The future has arrived in Austin.” @elonmusk posted about the cabin as a lounge with TV and sound, and the gold color (post). What tonight is

TechXplore frames Thursday as Tesla debuting the purpose-built Cybercab in Texas, competing with ride-hail and with Waymo. The vehicle on the invitation is the two-seat, steering-wheel-free robotaxi first shown in October 2024 — not a Model Y with the badges swapped.

Teslarati notes Tesla had already been registering two-seat Cybercabs with Texas regulators in the days before the event, with the Cybercab count climbing from a handful to 45. Paid Robotaxi trips in Austin, Dallas, and Houston have still been described as running mainly on the Model Y fleet.

What tonight is not

It is not a confirmed nationwide consumer sale. It is not a public Cybercab hail tonight. Robotaxi app 26.8.0 includes Cybercab-related code (automatic doors and similar) and Tesla has published rider, safety, and first-responder guides — circulated by Sawyer Merritt — but that is not the same as opening the vehicle in the app for anyone to request. TechTimes has said Cybercabs may appear for public bookings in the days after the event, without a locked date. Paid Robotaxi coverage named in reporting remains Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, still mostly Model Y.
